What to expect from India’s Personal Data Protection Bill 2019-2020

You may have heard that “Data is the biggest asset in 21st Century” more than the “Oil/ Petroleum or Gold“. Using the Data of people some of the companies are targeting users based on their interest, age, caste, creed, existing product & services. You may be getting lots of Call & SMS to buy a new Credit Card, Insurance or Loan, etc. from unknown people. This has to be stopped. The sensitive data of people are floating in the market and one can buy these data in a penny (Very Cheap). The Govt. of India is ready with the DRAFT and will not allow Culprit/ Companies to bother and use the Customer Personal Data for their own profit.

India’s Personal Data Protection Bill 2019

The Draft of Bill is ready and will be available to the public but before that Union Minister holding the Law and Justice, Communications and Electronics and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad is going to present the Data Protection Bill cum Draft 2019-2020 in the Lok Sabha.

What is Sensitive Personal Data?
As per India’s Personal Data Protection Bill, below are the Sensitive Personal Data:

Personal Data Protection Bill 2019-2020

Sensitive Personal Data” means personal data revealing, related to, or constituting, as may be applicable

  1. passwords (social website/ Emails or any other service password)
  2. financial data (Including Credit Card, Credit Score, Purchasing history etc.)
  3. health data (hospital, test or any health history data)
  4. official identifiers (jobs or post any)
  5. sex life (Marriage, Single or anything related to his/ her SEX Life)
  6. sexual orientation (Gender)
  7. biometric data (Aadhaar or any Biometric history)
  8. genetic data
  9. transgender status
  10. intersex status
  11. caste or tribe
  12. religious or political belief or affiliation
  13. any other category of data specified

History of Personal Data Protection Bill

In July 2018, a 10-member committee spearheaded by Justice BN Srikrishna submitted its report on data protection to IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.

Requirement of PDPB (Personal Data Protection Bill)

The 21st century has witnessed such an explosive rise in the number of ways in which we use information, that it is widely referred to as the information age with nearly 650 million Internet users and a growth rate of 7-8%, India is well on the path to becoming a digital economy, which has a large market for global players.

This digital revolution has permeated India as well. Recognizing its significance, and that it promises to bring large disruptions in almost all sectors of society, the Government of India has envisaged and implemented the “Digital India” initiative.
